The Chicks Taking the Long Way' 20th anniversary celebration continues with expanded edition, new tour dates September 30, 2026 6:40 AM

The Chicks are marking the 20th anniversary of their landmark album Taking the Long Way with an expanded edition. The trio announced that Taking the Long Way: 20th Anniversary Edition will arrive Oct. 3 in streaming formats and as a three-LP vinyl set, adding five bonus tracks to the original 2006 album. Among the previously unavailable material are “Thin Line” and “Live Wire,” which will be available to stream for the first time; as well as “Flowers (Demo Version)” which is available to stream now.

The trio — Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer — also added three performances to the Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary Tour: Philadelphia on Oct. 7, Boston on Oct. 9 and Los Angeles on Nov. 3. The expanded schedule follows the previously announced 16-date theater run, which launches Sept. 30 at Detroit's Fox Theatre and includes two-night stays in several cities, including Chicago, New York, San Antonio, Seattle, and San Francisco, with single-night concerts are also planned for Washington, D.C., Nashville, and Austin. The tour concludes with the final three-night engagement at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, on November 1, 2, and 3.

The anniversary tour serves to commemorate the album that became one of the defining releases of the group's career. Released in 2006 (following the backlash the band faced after criticizing President George W. Bush and the Iraq War,) Taking the Long Way debuted atop the Billboard 200 and earned five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. Its signature single, “Not Ready to Make Nice,” also won Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The upcoming concerts will also mark the first time The Chicks perform the entire tracklist of Taking the Long Way from start to finish during a live show. Each performance will conclude with a secondary selection of prominent hits pulled from the rest of their musical catalog.
