The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura invites dog lovers to make their pets paws-itively happy by joining the 2010 Paws 4 Hope walk to support those affected by cancer, September 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Berniece Bennett Park in Westlake Village. The event will include a dog walk and doggie contests including Most Creative Costume, Funniest Trick, Best Smile, and more. Donations raised by walk participants and their beloved canines will support the local cancer support programs of The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura. This is not a class, but rather an opportunity for people affected by cancer to practice meditation together, check in with each other, and discuss their meditation practice. The group is open to meditators and past participants in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course offered occasionally at The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura and other locations. Facilitator Catherine Baum has studied with Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, the founder of MBSR, and teaches MBSR courses at a variety of Ventura County locations. Please RSVP (805) 379-4777.

SCV Light The Night is an evening of hope. Register today at www.lightthenight.org/santaclarita Please join us on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Bridgeport Park in Santa Clarita. The evening will feature music, refreshments, entertainment, inspiration, kid's games, camaraderie and hope. It begins with a festival at 5pm and culminates in a 2 mile walk at dusk, with participants carrying illuminated balloons: red balloons are carried by supporters, white balloons are carried by cancer survivors and gold balloons are carried in memory of someone lost to a blood cancer. Please register at lightthenight.org/santaclarita! Walkers seek donations from friends, family, co-workers, and employers to sponsor their participation. Become a Champion For Cures by raising $100 and you will receive an illuminated balloon, refreshments and a signature Light The Night t-shirt. Cancer patients, survivors, and family members are invited to participate in a free eight-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, for eight weeks beginning Sept. 14 and ending Nov. 2.
